Well, I am currently enjoying myself in SJI. The most significant thing which happen to me in 2007 is the selection of CCA. I am currently in Rugby, a CCA which I wanted to join. Al though, I have never played the sport before, i have heard from a few seniors that Rugby was a good form of exercise and that it was good team sport. At first, I did not even know how to hold or throw the rugby ball due to its unique shape. However, with the help of a few friends and a little bit of practice, I soon overcame the difficulty of handling the rugby ball. Secondly, the next obstacle that I had to overcome was adapting to the tough training conditions and the difficulty of juggling schoolwork and training. The teachers in SJI are very helpful and caring towards the pupils. Upon seeing that I had difficulty in my schoolwork, they advised me to balance my time properly by setting up a timetable. Soon, I was able to work hard as well as play hard.
First, I shall talk about my training sessions. During trainings, one representative chosen by the teacher-in-charge would lead his fellow team mates in the warm up runs and stretches. After these warm ups, we would then go through skills training. For example, the forwards would train on scrums and runs. While the backs would train on kicking the ball and tackling. Lastly, we would end our training sessions with an hour of physical training. Although physical training is hated by most rugby boys due to the immense stamina needed, many of us know that with this training, we would be able to perform better in matches as we can outplay our opponents. However, if we apply ourselves well in training, the coach would allow us to play touch rugby for the rest of the session.
Secondly, the "B" Division boys, secondary three's and four's, would be playing a semi-final match against St. Andrews, which is believed to be the strongest rugby team out of all the secondary schools. However, the "B" Division boys are very determined and have shown great play in their previous matches against Raffles Instituition and Unity secondary, both believed to be strong in the this sport as well. Hopefully, I would be able to play for the "C" division team and contribute to the SJI school rugby team!
Well, in conclusion, I am very happy to be in my current CCA. Although the training is tough and vigorous, the secondary two's are very helpful and they make the training seem so much fun. I also know that the training which I go through is good for my body and thus, with a healthy body I am able to cope better with my studies!
